# Change or Downgrade Your Plan

> How to change or downgrade your Elephas plan, for example Professional to Personal, when the change takes effect, and what happens to your devices and Sync.

<Warning>
  Draft. This article depends on an open product question and is not ready to publish.
</Warning>

To change or downgrade your plan today, contact Elephas support. Elephas can't change an active plan from inside the app yet.

## Before you start

* Note the email address on your Elephas account. **Settings › Plan & Billing** shows **Signed in as** followed by your name or email.
* Decide which plan and billing period you want. See [plans and pricing](/docs/plans-and-billing/plans-and-pricing).
* If you are moving from Professional to Personal, read "Devices and Sync" below first.

## Steps

1. Email [support@elephas.app](mailto:support@elephas.app) from the email address on your Elephas account.
2. Say which plan you have now, which plan you want, and whether you want monthly or annual billing.
3. Support confirms the change and when it takes effect.
4. After the change, open **Settings › Plan & Billing** and click **Refresh**. **Current Plan** shows your new plan and its paid-through date.

## How it works

* **A downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period.** You keep what you paid for until then, including on an annual plan.
* **Nothing is deleted.** Your Brains, documents and chats stay on your computer.
* **Your included Elephas AI usage changes with your plan.** Usage you have already used is not reset or refunded.

### Devices and Sync when you move to Personal

Personal works on 1 device and does not include Personal Sync.

* Devices you already use keep working after a downgrade. The device limit is checked when a computer asks for a place, not afterwards.
* A device that already syncs keeps syncing under any paid plan. You can't turn Sync on for a new device without Professional. The Sync pane then says **Sync is part of the Professional plan.**
* To tidy up, remove computers you no longer use. See [remove a device](/docs/sync-and-devices/remove-a-device).

    Click **Refresh** under **Current Plan**. Changes can take a short while to reach the app. A scheduled downgrade only shows after your current period ends.

    You see this if you try to buy a new plan while one is active. Contact support to change it instead, so you are not billed twice.
