# Elephas Plans and Pricing Explained

> Compare Elephas Personal, Professional, Team and Enterprise: monthly and annual prices, device limits, Personal Sync and the Elephas AI usage in each plan.

Elephas has two plans for individuals, Personal and Professional, plus Team for groups and Enterprise by contract. Every plan includes the full knowledge workspace on your computer: your Brains, local indexing, Ask with citations and your chat history.

## Before you start

* You need an Elephas account to buy a plan. See [create your account and sign in](/docs/getting-started/create-account-and-sign-in).
* Not sure yet? Start with the [free trial](/docs/plans-and-billing/free-trial). It needs no card.
* Prices are in US dollars. Checkout shows any tax and the final amount before you pay.

In the app, each plan card in **Settings › Plan & Billing › Choose a Plan** states its price, the **AI credits of usage** it includes each month, and its device limit, for example **Works on up to 3 devices, with Sync.**

## How to choose

* **Personal** is for one person on one computer. It includes Elephas AI each month, plus your own API key and Local AI.
* **Professional** is for heavier use or more than one computer. It includes more Elephas AI usage, works on up to 3 devices, and includes [Personal Sync](/docs/sync-and-devices/personal-sync-overview) between them.
* **Team** is for groups that share documents. Your team gets its own workspace, shared Team Brains, roles and a Team AI policy. The Owner counts as one seat. See [Elephas for Teams](/docs/teams/teams-overview).
* **Enterprise** is a contract plan for larger organizations. See [Enterprise](/docs/teams/enterprise).

## Buy a plan

    On Mac, choose **Elephas › Settings…** or press **⌘,**. On Windows, choose **File › Settings…** or press **Ctrl+,**. Then choose **Plan & Billing**.

    Under **Choose a Plan**, pick a plan and monthly or annual billing. Annual plans show the yearly charge, with the monthly equivalent beside it.

    Click **Continue to Checkout**. Checkout opens in your browser. When payment is confirmed, Elephas shows **Payment confirmed. Your plan is active.**

To buy a Team plan, use **Create a Team…** in the Teams area instead. See [set up a team workspace](/docs/teams/set-up-a-team-workspace).

## How it works

* **Your plan belongs to your Elephas account.** There is no license key. Sign in on another computer to use it there, within your device limit.
* **Indexing happens on your computer. Always.** Your documents are read and indexed locally on every plan. Plans differ in how much Elephas AI is included, how many computers you can use and whether Sync is included.
* **Elephas AI usage is included, not billed per question.** Each paid plan includes a monthly amount. If you use it up, you can keep asking with your own API key or Local AI. There is no surprise overage charge. See [AI usage and credits](/docs/plans-and-billing/ai-usage-and-credits).
* **You control where AI runs.** Elephas AI, your own API key and Local AI are all included on Personal and Professional. See [what data is sent to AI](/docs/privacy-and-security/what-data-is-sent-to-ai).

## Troubleshooting

    **Choose a Plan** appears only when you are signed in and do not have an active plan. If you already have a plan, see [upgrade your plan](/docs/plans-and-billing/upgrade-your-plan).

    Elephas does not let you buy a second plan on top of an active one. To change plans, see [change or downgrade your plan](/docs/plans-and-billing/change-or-downgrade-plan).

  <Accordion title="Checkout finished but the plan is not active">
    Elephas waits for the payment to be confirmed and shows **Waiting for payment confirmation.** Click **Check Again** after a moment. If it does not update, [contact support](/docs/troubleshooting/contact-support).

## FAQ

  <Accordion title="Is there a free plan?">
    No. There is a 7-day free trial with no card required. Without a trial or plan, you can still open your Brains, add and search your documents and read your past chats, but you cannot get new answers. See [when your plan ends](/docs/plans-and-billing/when-your-plan-ends).

  <Accordion title="What is the difference between Personal and Professional?">
    Professional includes more Elephas AI usage each month, works on up to 3 devices instead of 1, and includes Personal Sync. Everything else is the same, including Local AI, your own API key and personal information protection.

  <Accordion title="How much do I save with annual billing?">

  <Accordion title="Does my classic Elephas license work here?">
    No. This app uses an Elephas account, not license keys. See [moving from classic Elephas](/docs/getting-started/moving-from-classic-elephas).

    No. When your included Elephas AI usage runs out, Elephas AI pauses until it resets. You are not charged for more. You can keep asking with your own API key or Local AI.
