Most Elephas commands have a shortcut. On Mac they use the Command key (⌘). On Windows they use Ctrl. You can also find every command, with its shortcut, in the menu bar. These are the shortcuts shown in Elephas’s menus.

File

Add Files…, Add Folder… and Add Web Page… work when a Brain you can add files to is open.

Return or Enter never confirms a dialog that deletes or removes something, such as Delete Chat?. Click the button instead. Standard system shortcuts, such as copy and paste in text fields and ⌘Q to quit on Mac, work as usual.

How it works

  • Mac and Windows use the same letters. ⌘ on Mac becomes Ctrl on Windows, ⌥ (Option) becomes Alt and ⇧ (Shift) stays Shift. The one exception is the sidebar: ⌃⌘S on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+S on Windows.
  • Text size is one setting. Bigger Text and Smaller Text change the same text size you can set under Text Size in Settings › Appearance. See Appearance.
  • There is no Edit menu. Copy, paste and undo work inside text fields with the usual system keys.
  • Shortcuts can’t be changed in Elephas yet.

Troubleshooting

Some commands need something open. Add Files…, Add Folder… and Add Web Page… need an open Brain that you can add files to. Show Sources works in Ask. Stop Answer works only while an answer is being prepared. If the menu item is greyed out, so is its shortcut.
Escape stops an answer only while the cursor is in the question box. Use ⌘. on Mac or Ctrl+. on Windows from anywhere in the window.
