Step-by-step guide to enabling and using the Elephas AI keyboard for writing, rewriting, and replying in any iOS app.
What is the Smart AI Keyboard?
The Elephas Smart AI Keyboard is an AI-powered iOS keyboard that helps automate the writing process on your iPhone or iPad. Compose emails, rewrite messages, fix grammar, and dictate notes in any app.
Enabling the keyboard
- Open the Elephas iOS app
- Go to Config and enable the Elephas keyboard checkbox
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Go to General > Keyboard > Keyboards
- Tap Add New Keyboard and select Elephas
- Tap Elephas again and enable Allow Full Access (required for AI features)
Switching to the Elephas keyboard
When typing in any app, tap and hold the globe icon on your keyboard, then select Elephas. You can use the native iOS keyboard for everyday typing, and switch to Elephas when you want AI features. Tap the globe icon again to switch back to your native keyboard.

Reply to emails, social media posts, and messages with one tap. Choose from ready-made reply options:

Rewrite mode
Four rewrite modes for transforming any text:
- Professional — Turns your content into a professional piece
- Friendly — Use it for a friendly tone

Continue writing
Let Elephas write from where you left off. Give it enough context and leave an incomplete sentence. Elephas will complete the sentence or extend the content.
Grammar fixes
Worried about sending an email with grammar mistakes? Elephas can clean up spelling and grammar with one tap.
Smart write
Describe what you want and the keyboard generates text for you. Useful for composing emails, notes, and longer-form content.
Undo
Always revert to your original content by tapping the undo button.
Hold shortcuts
Some shortcuts from the Mac app work in the iOS keyboard. Hold these keys to trigger features:
- p — Professional mode
- f — Friendly mode
- v — Viral mode
- s — Smart write
- c — Continue writing
- g — Grammar fix
You can also select a piece of text and run any of the commands above on the selection.
Voice input
The keyboard supports voice input. Tap the mic icon in the top right corner of the keyboard to start recording. Whatever you speak will be transcribed and cleaned up by AI.
The voice system is tuned for composing messages, so you can simply say "I cannot come today" instead of "Write a message saying I cannot come today." The result language matches your keyboard locale, so you can speak in any supported language.
You can also choose which Super Brain to add the recording to.
Choosing your AI engine
The keyboard uses the Elephas built-in AI engine that comes with your subscription. You can also use your own OpenAI key, or connect other AI providers from the Elephas iOS app settings.
Privacy
"Allow Full Access" is required so the keyboard can communicate with the AI provider. The keyboard does not log your keystrokes. All processing follows the same privacy model as the Elephas Mac app.
Compatibility
Smart AI Keyboard is compatible with all iOS devices running iOS 15 or higher, including all versions of iPhone and iPad.
