Adding Files to Your Workspace
Add PDFs, Word documents, web pages, voice memos, and entire websites to your Super Brain workspace.
What you can add to a Super Brain
Elephas indexes a wide variety of files so you can bring all your knowledge into one workspace. From PDFs and Word documents to images, audio recordings, and even code files.
What you can do with file indexing
- Search through hundreds of documents in seconds
- Extract text from images and scanned documents with OCR
- Transcribe audio and video to make recordings searchable
- Index code files and search across entire projects
- Import notes from Apple Notes, Notion, Obsidian, and more
Supported file types
Documents
.pdf .docx .doc .xlsx .pptx .pages .txt .md .rtf .csv .json .html .epub .eml
Images (with OCR)
.jpg .jpeg .png .heic .gif .webp .tiff
Elephas uses OCR to extract text from images and scanned documents, then indexes the extracted text alongside your other files.
Audio & video (with transcription)
.mp3 .mp4 .mov .wav .m4a .aac
Audio and video files are transcribed and the transcripts are indexed. The first transcription downloads the local Whisper model.
Code files
.py .js .ts .swift .java .cpp .c .go .rb .php .css .sql .sh .yaml .json
Index entire projects and search across your codebase.
Web content
- Web pages — paste any URL and Elephas fetches and indexes the page content
- YouTube videos — Elephas pulls available transcripts
Connected apps
Apple Notes · Notion · Obsidian · Roam Research · Logseq · DEVONthink · Zoom
How to add files
Open the Knowledge Base from the chat header (it shows a file-count badge) to open the Add Sources sheet. Two ways to add:
- Click + Add Files or Folders and browse to select files, or
- Drag and drop files or folders directly from Finder onto the Brain
Tip: Add entire folders to index everything inside automatically. You can also create an instruction-only Brain with no files at all (see Workspace Configuration).
Adding web pages and whole websites
In Add Files or Folders, choose the web pages / YouTube option to open the Add URLs view. Paste one or more URLs and click Add (or press Cmd + Enter). For an entire site, Pro plans add Fetch One-Level and Fetch Site Map (recursive): enter a parent URL and Elephas grabs the important pages, including nested ones, with a preview so you can de-select pages before indexing.
Quick capture from any app
Capture text without leaving the app you're in: select the text, open Super Command (Ctrl + Space, or the floating Elephas icon), type Add to…, pick a Super Brain, and press Enter. Captured text is stored under the Notes source type in that Brain.
Voice memos
To add a voice memo, copy it to a temporary location (e.g. your Desktop), then drop it into the Elephas recording window. You can index the transcript into a Brain or simply transcribe the memo.
Not supported
Archive files (.zip, .rar, .dmg), binary executables, and system files are not supported.
