ChatGPT Business, Team, and Enterprise Pricing: What Each Plan Costs in 2026

Last updated: September 11, 2026

ChatGPT Business pricing starts at $25 a seat a month on monthly billing, but you can't buy a single seat. Every workspace needs two seats, and since August 25, 2026 there's also a $125 Premium seat, so your real bill depends on who needs which seat.

For your 2-20 person firm, the real questions are what your team pays each month and each year, what happens when people join or leave, and what the seat price does not buy.

Below, you'll find a dated price table, an 8-person cost example, the rules for changing seats, the point where Enterprise makes sense, and what the price leaves out.

Quick answer

  • Standard seats cost $25 per user per month, or $20 on annual billing; Premium seats cost $125, or $100.
  • Every workspace needs two paid seats; 8 Standard seats cost $200 a month or $1,920 a year, before tax.
  • ChatGPT Enterprise has custom pricing through sales, and ChatGPT Business is not eligible for a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
  • For confidential client files, Elephas is a private AI knowledge assistant for Mac that removes sensitive details before a prompt reaches a cloud model. Elephas starts at $19/month. Try Elephas for free.

How much does ChatGPT Business cost in 2026?

A Standard Business seat costs $25 a month on monthly billing, or $20 per month billed annually. A Premium seat, the higher tier, costs $125 a month, or $100 a month on annual billing. Every workspace needs two seats, per OpenAI.

If you run an 8-person firm on Standard seats, you pay $200 a month on monthly billing, or $1,920 once a year on annual billing, equal to $160 a month. Switching to annual billing saves you $480 a year, before tax.

On chatgpt.com, ChatGPT pricing has two tabs: the free tier, Go, ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro for individuals, and Business and Enterprise for teams, where Business is the self-serve paid plan with admin controls.

Three dates show why older ChatGPT pricing guides disagree:

Standard or Premium: which ChatGPT plan does each person need?

Standard and Premium seat prices

Give most of your staff a Standard seat, which OpenAI labels best for everyday work. Premium seats cost $125 a month, or $100 on annual billing, and give heavy users 5x Standard included usage with no five-hour limit, per OpenAI's pricing page.

Each seat includes ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex, but included usage has a limit, and heavy work can stop someone mid-project. You can then buy optional workspace credits. There's no fixed message count, and credit costs sit on the rate card.

Check how your staff use ChatGPT before you buy Premium. A National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) study by Erik Brynjolfsson, Danielle Li and Lindsey Raymond found a 14% rise in issues resolved per hour among 5,179 support agents, and 34% for novice and low-skilled workers.

Monthly or billed annually: what happens when your headcount changes?

Adding versus removing seats
Adding versus removing seats

Added seats are charged immediately on a prorated basis, while seat reductions apply at the next billing cycle, and unused seats are not refunded. When someone leaves your firm, the seat cost doesn't stop: you keep paying until renewal (billing guide).

Annual billing means one upfront charge for the year, at a rate 20% lower: $20 a seat instead of $25, on the pricing page.

Standard seatsMonthly billingAnnual billing
2$50/month$480/year
5$125/month$1,200/year
10$250/month$2,400/year
20$500/month$4,800/year

Pilot monthly first: in Organization Science, a study by Fabrizio Dell'Acqua's team found AI users among 758 knowledge workers completed 12.2% more tasks inside AI's abilities but were 19% less likely than non-AI users to solve a task outside them correctly.

When does a small firm need ChatGPT Enterprise pricing?

A small firm like yours needs ChatGPT Enterprise instead of Business for what self-serve Business can't provide: invoice billing, a Business Associate Agreement (BAA), Zero Data Retention, or more than 200 seats. OpenAI does not publish a price for Enterprise; sales quotes it.

New self-serve subscriptions are capped at 200 seats from August 24, 2026, while older workspaces keep their previous limit. Support cannot change that cap, per the Business FAQ, so if your team grows past it, you need a sales conversation.

What does the ChatGPT Business price not cover?

Covered versus not covered list
Covered versus not covered list

Your seat price gets your team a workspace where company data is not used for training by default and is protected by encryption in transit and at rest, per OpenAI. It does not cover a Business Associate Agreement, full data residency, or compliance paperwork.

Business data residency is partial. OpenAI's pricing lists it for Enterprise; its help center notes a gradual Business rollout, not for all customers. It covers content at rest, not processing, and safety data stays in the US.

Data export is not offered in a Business workspace, so members cannot export their own data, per the Business FAQ. Compliance documents also sit outside the seat price, so check each one yourself:

Is there a private option for confidential client files?

Yes, you can strip client identifiers on your Mac before a prompt reaches a cloud model. Your workspace still gets whatever staff paste, and a Cyberhaven analysis found 39.7% of AI interactions involve sensitive data (published February 11, 2026).

Elephas is a private AI knowledge assistant for Mac that works alongside the cloud model your firm already uses, including ChatGPT, and removes personally identifiable information (PII) on the Mac before a prompt is sent, or runs offline with built-in local LLM models.

For firms that still want a leading cloud model, Elephas adds a second layer through automatic PII redaction. Before a prompt is sent to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, or any other cloud model, it strips sensitive names, emails, phone numbers, and identifiers on your Mac.

The cloud model only ever sees the sanitized text. When the answer comes back, the redacted fields are reassembled locally on your machine, so identifiable information never leaves the device. It pairs this with zero data retention: content never trains AI models, never sits on a vendor's server, and never passes through a third-party reviewer's screen.

ChatGPT Business pricing: which seats and billing should you choose?

For your 2-20 person firm, three decisions matter: how many Standard seats to buy, which few people need the Premium tier, and whether your headcount is steady enough for annual billing. Move to Enterprise for needs such as invoicing, a Business Associate Agreement, Zero Data Retention, SCIM, or more than 200 seats.

Frequently asked questions

Does Business include a BAA?

No, the Business plan does not come with a Business Associate Agreement. The HIPAA-eligible list names ChatGPT for Enterprise with Regulated Workspace, ChatGPT for Healthcare, ChatGPT for Clinicians, ChatGPT FedRAMP, and some API offerings with modified retention, each with a signed BAA.

Does the Business plan have a free trial?

OpenAI doesn't advertise a free trial on the Business pages we checked on September 11, 2026. The cheapest test is the two-seat minimum on monthly billing, at $50 a month before tax, so you skip a 12-month seat commitment (billing guide).

Can a firm switch from monthly to annual billing later?

Yes, but the change applies at the next renewal date, and the new annual term then runs a full year from that date. Seats added on an annual plan stay committed through the end of that term, per the billing guide.

Is API usage included in your seat price?

No. Your workspace and the API platform are billed separately, and a seat doesn't include API usage, per the Business FAQ. If you connect your own software through the API, you pay separate API pricing on top of your seats.

Do nonprofits get a discount on ChatGPT?

Yes. Through OpenAI for Nonprofits, you can get a nonprofit discount of up to 75% on the Business and Enterprise plans, per OpenAI. Check that you qualify before you budget, as the prices in the table above assume no discount at all.

Does the price change by country or tax?

It can. The plan pages can show a local currency with the US dollar price beside it, and quoted prices are before tax. Value-added tax (VAT) is handled at checkout, where your business can enter a tax ID (billing guide).
